Mortgage Govt Underwriter

This position is responsible for the underwriting duties associated with First United Bank mortgage loans in accordance with all bank, investor, and regulatory requirements.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Cooperating and interacting with all entities of First United Bank
• Performing credit and property analysis on conventional and government loan files
• Explaining credit decisions in written and verbal form
• Performing timely reviews of new file submissions and conditions
• Analyzing challenging loan packages to render sound credit solutions
• Providing exemplary customer service to internal and external customers
• Maintaining quality and production standards
• Processing agency/investor exception requests
• Reviewing mail and email, and responding to voice mail
• Using conversation log or memo sections in the loan entry program
• Offering loan options to sales team
• Attending mortgage department underwriting meetings

Additional duties include:

• Performing other duties as requested by Executive Management or Supervisor
• Completing all required compliance exams on a yearly basis
• Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures
• Dressing professionally
• Recommending to supervisor possible methods to improve department

This is a hybrid position based in Plano, TX. Candidates must be able to work out of the Plano office a minimum of four days per week. Only local candidates will be considered.

Employee specifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related field or High School diploma/GED plus minimum of 10+ years of frontline mortgage underwriting experience
• Recent FHA and VA experience (DE/SAR) required
• Government underwriting experience required
• Experience with and knowledge of property and credit underwriting requirements of FNMA, FHLMC, HUD, VA and private mortgage insurance companies
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills
• Ability to effectively make decisions in an independent manner
• Experience with Encompass, Data Verify and Loan Beam is a plus
