Job Title: Sewing Machine Operator

Job Summary

The Sewing Machine Operator – Responsible for sewing and assembling heavy‑duty leather goods using industrial sewing machines. This role requires experience working with thick or rigid materials , maintaining stitch quality, and following production and quality standards to ensure durable, functional products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate industrial sewing machines designed for heavy leather and multi‑layer materials
• Sew leather components such as belts, straps, and assemblies according to specifications
• Use bonded nylon or polyester thread and appropriate needle sizes for material thickness
• Maintain consistent stitch length, tension, and alignment
• Perform reinforced stitching (back‑tacking, multiple passes) at stress points
• Assemble leather components with liners, stiffeners, and hardware as required
• Inspect finished work for:
  • Stitch integrity and consistency
  • Proper alignment and appearance
  • Defects such as skipped stitches or needle damage
• Trim loose threads and prepare items for finishing or next production step
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workstation
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial sewing machines , preferably sewing leather or heavy materials
• Ability to sew thick, stiff, or multi‑layer materials consistently
• Knowledge of thread types, needles, and tension adjustments
• Strong attention to detail and quality
• Ability to read and follow work instructions or production specs
• Good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity
• Dependable attendance and ability to work scheduled shifts

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in leather goods manufacturing
• Familiarity with flatbed or cylinder‑arm industrial sewing machines
• Experience sewing load‑bearing or reinforced products
• Basic understanding of production flow in a manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Frequent use of hands for precise manipulation and sewing
• Ability to lift and move materials or finished goods (typically up to 25–50 lbs)
• Visual acuity sufficient to inspect stitch quality and detail
