We are seeking a detail-oriented Part-Time Staff Accountant to support our accounting and payroll functions. This role will spend approximately 50% of the time managing payroll processes in coordination with our Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and the remaining time supporting general accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll experience, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners. Key Responsibilities Payroll & PEO Administration (Approximately 50%) Process and review bi-weekly payroll in partnership with the company’s PEO provider. Ensure accuracy of employee hours, wage adjustments, bonuses, and deductions. Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding processes with the PEO platform. Review payroll reports, tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and compliance requirements. Serve as the primary liaison between the company and the PEO for payroll-related questions and issues. Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Accounting & Financial Support (Approximately 50%) Assist with monthly close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed. Reconcile payroll-related accounts including wages, taxes, and benefits. Assist in preparing financial reports and supporting documentation. Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with company policies. Provide general accounting support to the finance team on ad hoc projects. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 3+ years of accounting experience with hands-on payroll processing experience . Experience working with or administering payroll through a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) strongly preferred. Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. Ability to work independently in a part-time capacity while meeting deadlines. Preferred Skills Experience with outsourced payroll platforms or HRIS systems.
